About National Foundation of Dentistry For the Handicapped

The National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped (NFDH) is a national charitable organization solely dedicated to meeting the needs of citizens with physical, medical, and mental disabilities by providing dental care to disabled and aged people who cannot afford treatment and are not eligible for public aid. Our country’s standard of dental care is one of the highest in the world, yet those Americans most desperately in need often go untreated. They may be children or adults who are mentally or physically disabled. They suffer from cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, mental illness, and many other disabilities. The foundation was established in 1974 and is an affiliate of the American Dental Association and state and local dental associations. Disabled, elderly, and mentally compromised patients are linked with dentists in their communities to receive free comprehensive dental treatment, including prosthetics. There is also a program to provide training to help parents and professionals caring for developmentally disable persons to provide appropriate oral hygiene.
