The VKS is in the Netherlands and represents more than 180 specific metabolic disorders. They provide information and services to those living with a metabolic disorder, as well as their caretakers. They regularly organize meetings where parents and children can meet each other and professionals like doctors, caretakers, etc. to exchange information and experiences. Metabolic disorders are genetic diseases, the majority of which are defects of single genes that code for enzymes that facilitate conversion of various substances into others In most of the disorders, problems arise due to accumulation of substances which are toxic or interfere with normal function
