The Real Hope for CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia) is a parent group dedicated to families of children born with congenital diaphragmatic hernias (CDH). This is a life-threatening birth defect in which the diaphragm does not completely form, allowing some of the contents of the abdomen to protrude into the chest and hinder the normal growth of lung tissue. Founded in 2004, Real Hope for CDH is a patient support group offering information on experiences of families involved in a CDH program at Shands Children's Hospital at the University of Florida. Approximately one in every 3000 babies is affected by CDH. Real Hope for CDH provides patient networking and informational materials to patients, professionals, and the general public.
