Abetalipoproteinemia Collaboration Foundation is a voluntary organization with many initiatives. These include providing families and professionals with information about abetalipoproteinemia, sponsoring a regular international symposium for family networking as well as professional collaboration, promoting and funding research to gain further insight and treatment recommendations as well as supporting multidisciplinary research and treatment centers for the advancement of clinical management. Abetalipoproteinemia is a rare genetic condition that involves the body's inability to absorb and transport fat (lipids). Some of the most significant consequences relate to the body not being able to absorb fat-soluble vitamins. Without these vitamins, serious problems arise with an individual's eyesight and in their nervous system.
