Living with a rare disease means that Amanda is one of 30 million-plus \u201czebras<\/a>\u201d in the United States \u2013 and while she may be rare, she\u2019s not alone.<\/p>\n

Amanda is a community partner in the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD\u00ae<\/sup>) Running for Rare<\/a> charity program, where individuals impacted by rare disease join together with runners to raise awareness while fundraising. Donations support NORD\u2019s mission to improve the health and well-being of people with rare diseases by driving advances in care, research, and policy.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is reinvigorating to meet people who want to be a part of Running for Rare and are interested in making meaningful connections,\u201d<\/strong> Amanda shares. \u201cIt is possible to find your herd.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amanda\u2019s herd includes runners like Kyra, who was paired with Amanda during the 2024 Boston Marathon.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmanda continues to be the most amazing community partner and of course, my ultimate running inspiration! Her guidance and friendship truly got me through my first marathon,\u201d<\/strong> Kyra shares.<\/p>\n

Boston was Kyra\u2019s first marathon, and she appreciated the chance to put meaning behind her miles.<\/p>\n

\"Kyra<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough Running for Rare, I wanted to bring awareness to just how incredible the rare community is and how important a role NORD has in advancing care and education,\u201d<\/strong> Kyra says. \u201cMy race was not only a personal goal, but also in honor of the inspiring strength and fierceness of rare patients and families.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bonds like Amanda\u2019s and Kyra\u2019s are regularly formed through Running for Rare, and they continue long past race day.<\/p>\n

\u201cKyra\u2019s energy is contagious, and since she has finished her marathon, we have continued to stay connected and cheer each other on from afar,\u201d<\/strong> Amanda says.<\/p>\n
