{"id":58559,"date":"2015-04-20T21:29:33","date_gmt":"2015-04-21T01:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rarediseases.org\/running-for-rare-diseases-takes-on-boston-marathon\/"},"modified":"2022-12-01T11:43:50","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T16:43:50","slug":"running-for-rare-diseases-takes-on-boston-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rarediseases.org\/es\/running-for-rare-diseases-takes-on-boston-marathon\/","title":{"rendered":"Running for Rare Diseases Takes On Boston Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Talk about inspiring\u2013today, members of the Running for Rare Diseases Marathon Team will pound out 26.2 miles in chilly temps while running the Boston Marathon on behalf of rare disease patients!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19105\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19105\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rarediseases.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/running-for-rare-blog.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-19105\" src=\"https:\/\/rarediseases.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/running-for-rare-blog-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Boston Marathon 2015: Mile 14 NORD and Running for Rare\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19105\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boston Marathon 2015: Mile 14 NORD and Running for Rare<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Each runner is\u00a0partnered with an individual rare disease patient\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 see their amazing stories here\u00a0\u2013 and this\u00a0effort raises\u00a0money, awareness and support for all 7,000 rare diseases. \u00a0We are beyond thrilled and proud to partner with such an amazing and inspiring group of people.<\/p>\n<p>Running for Rare Diseases has grown from a grassroots team of four runners to this year\u2019s record-breaking team of 100+ runners. \u00a0Over the years, the team has raised nearly $500,000 for NORD\u2019s educational programs and, as of 2013, our Undiagnosed Diseases Patient Assistance Fund. \u00a0The fund pays for medical testing for undiagnosed patients who cannot afford the basic medical work-up needed to make them eligible to apply for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undiagnosed Diseases Program (UDP). The team says, \u201cWe are thrilled to be able to provide this patient assistance program to support patients who have exhausted all other avenues to seek a diagnosis!\u201d<span id=\"more-2322\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As awareness of the Running for Rare Diseases team mission has grown exponentially, more and more individuals have been inspired to use running as a platform to connect with the rare disease community and spread the word about rare diseases.
