The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD\u00ae) is pleased to support California Attorney General Xavier Becerra\u2019s nomination as the next Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Rare disease patients rely on close collaboration between HHS and numerous agencies under its purview, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and National Institutes of Health (NIH). NORD looks forward to working with Attorney General Becerra and HHS on efforts important to the rare disease community, including ensuring that basic research into complex rare diseases is fully funded, encouraging robust patient-focused drug development, and bolstering the newborn screening program.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NORD believes Attorney General Becerra\u2019s experience as a US Congressman for over two decades and as the head of a major state agency will allow him to effectively guide these agencies to as they continue their work to benefit rare disease patients.
