Eosinophilic Grastrointestinal Diseases Patient Education Seminar

April 23, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 2:30 pm

A growing number of children and adults suffer from a chronic and complex group ofdisorders described as Eosinophilic (E-O-sin-O-phil-ik) Gastrointestinal Disorders. These disordersare characterized by having above normal amounts of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in oneor more specific places anywhere in their digestive system, which causes inflammation and damage. These disorders are often triggered by food proteins and patients living with these disorders oftenhave food allergies as well.  Diagnosis can only be made through tissue biopsies. These diseases arechronic and often debilitating. Delays in diagnosis are common and often patients aremisdiagnosed. And there is no cure!

In order to bring vital education and support to patients and families affected by eosinophil-associated diseases, the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED) is hosting this patient education seminar where patients and families will:

  • learn from medical professionals about EGIDS disease management and treatment
  • Connect with adult patients, parent advocates, and caregivers
  • Gather mealtime coping and feeding therapy strategies
  • Participate in raffles to win prizes!
  • enjoy refreshments

Note: Childcare is not available at the seminar. Children under the age of 11 will not be permitted into the meeting room.
