About Association for Glycogen Storage Disease (UK) Ltd
The Association for Glycogen Storage Disease (UK) (AGSD) is a registered charity that acts as a contact and support group for individuals and families affected by glycogen storage disease. Glycogen storage diseases (GSD) are a group of rare inborn errors of metabolism characterized by deficiencies of certain enzymes involved in the metabolism of glycogen. ASGD (UK) was established in 1985 and acts as a focus for educational, scientific, and fund-raising activities related to the disorder. Other goals of the association include protecting and promoting the best interests of individuals affected by GSD; encouraging the improvement of facilities for treatment, study, education, and recuperation; and assisting in the organization of support groups throughout the world. The association holds an annual general meeting and offers limited scholarships for travel and accommodation to those who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend. In addition to informational brochures published in English, Urdu, Spanish and Polish, ASGD (UK) also publishes a quarterly, self-titled newsletter.
