About National Down Syndrome Society
The mission of the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) is to benefit people with Down syndrome and their families through leadership in education, research, and advocacy. Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder caused by an error in cell division that results in the presence of an additional chromosome 21. It occurs in one of 800 live births, in all races and economic groups. NDSS was established in 1979 to ensure that all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to achieve their full potential in community life.
