About National Hansen’s Disease Program

The National Hansen’s Disease Programs (NHDP), a service of the Bureau of Primary Health Care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is primarily responsible for inpatient and outpatient care and treatment of Hansen’s disease (leprosy). In addition to providing clinical inpatient programs in Baton Rouge, LA, NHDP coordinates outpatient programs throughout the United States, conducts professional education programs, and oversees a research program aimed at improving prevention, detection, and treatment of Hansen’s disease.
