About Canadian Stuttering Association

The Canadian Stuttering Association (CSA) is a national non-profit organization that provides coordination for a national network of autonomous Canadian self-help groups for individuals who stutter. Such groups, which offer support and resources to affected individuals and family members, are founded on the principle that, «as people who stutter, we have much to learn from one another, no matter what language we speak.» Stuttering is a speech abnormality characterized by repeated hesitation or delay in enunciating words, abnormally prolonged pauses, and repetition of parts of words or entire words. CSA is committed to working closely with speech professionals and treatment centers, serving as an impartial forum for information sharing, functioning as advocates for affected individuals, and promoting greater acceptance of people who stutter through public education. Above all, CAPS is committed to the principle that input from each organizational member across Canada is the basis for all of its work on behalf of affected children, adolescents, and adults as well as their parents, legal guardians, spouses, significant others, and families. The association’s activities include sponsoring national conferences for affected individuals and family members, publishing a quarterly newsletter, and maintaining a web site on the Internet.
