About Moebius Syndrome Foundation
The Moebius Syndrome Foundation is a national, non-profit organization founded in 1994. Its mission is to provide information and support to individuals with Moebius syndrome and their families, promote greater awareness and understanding of Moebius syndrome, and advocate for scientific research to advance the diagnosis and treatment of Moebius syndrome and its associated conditions.
Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological condition characterized by the absence or underdevelopment of the 6th and 7th cranial nerves, resulting in a lack of facial expression, including the inability to smile, frown, move eyes laterally, or blink. Swallowing and speech difficulties are common. In some cases, other cranial nerves may be involved.
The Moebius Syndrome Foundation provides a network of information and communication resources to affected individuals and their families. It aims to educate the medical community and the general public about this disorder. The Foundation also host biennial national conferences and research symposiums.
