World Federation of Hemophilia

The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) is an international, non-profit organization in Canada that was founded in 1963 to promote the care of individuals with hemophilia throughout the world. Hemophilia is a group of hereditary bleeding disorders characterized by deficiency of one of the blood factors necessary for blood clotting (coagulation). Affected individuals may experience bleeding episodes that occur for no apparent reason or due to surgery, dental extractions, or injuries. Recurring bleeding into the joints and muscles may cause painful inflammation of the joints (arthritis) and associated deformities. The WFH focuses its activities in healthcare development programs, humanitarian aid, data collection, public affairs, international congresses, and publications.
