About DESSH Foundation
Mission Statement / About:
DeSanto-Shinawi Syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental genetic disease that is often referred to as ‘DESSH’ and is sometimes called WAC syndrome. It is an autosomal dominant condition caused by pathogenic variants of the WAC gene.
DESSH Syndrome is characterized by a variable degree of developmental delay, intellectual disability, hypotonia, ocular abnormalities, gastrointestinal abnormalities, epilepsy, behavioral difficulties, and recognizable facial differences. WAC is identified as an autism gene.
The DESSH Foundation supports individuals and families affected by DeSanto–Shinawi Syndrome by advancing research, strengthening community, and driving awareness to accelerate treatments for improved quality of life and independence.
