Established in 1993, the association provides continuing education to physicians through symposia, maintains a database for collaboration with medical scientists, and funds research into the causes, treatment and eventual cure of inflammatory myopathies. TMA provides extensive services for myositis patients and their families. TMA organizes national conferences featuring world-renowned speakers, and produces numerous newsletter, which provide education, and articles that enhance the lives of individuals with inflammatory myopathies.
