About Lymphatic Education & Research Network

The Lymphatic Research Foundation’s mission is to promote and support biomedical research to find improved treatment options and cures for lymphatic disease, including lymphedema and related lymphatic disorders. The lymphatic system is a circulatory network of vessels, ducts, and nodes that filter and distribute certain fluid (lymph) and blood cells throughout the body. The primary symptom of hereditary lymphedema is swelling or puffiness in various parts of the body due to the accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the soft layers of tissue under the skin. The program goals of the LRF include increasing public and private funding for lymphatic research, fostering collaboration and the exchange of information and resources among researchers, providing research grants and awards, and promoting a national tissue bank and patient registry.
