The announcement by our friend and fellow rare advocate Yann Le Cam that he will step down in March 2024 from the role of CEO of EURORDIS provides an opportunity to reflect upon the many important achievements under his leadership.
From time to time, an individual comes along at just the right moment with just the right combination of skills, passion and commitment to drive a cause forward. Such was the case with Yann. When he first assumed the leadership of EURORDIS in 2000, it was still a small and relatively new organization seeking to find a pathway to make a difference for Europeans affected by rare diseases.
Since then, EURORDIS has made many wonderful contributions to advancing research, patient care and public policy on behalf of rare patients and their families. NORD has been proud to be a partner with EURORDIS on many important ventures and, on a personal note, I have been honored to work closely with Yann over the years to advance our shared goals.
On behalf of my colleagues at the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) and rare disease community members around the world, I wish to acknowledge and recognize Yann’s tireless efforts and many significant accomplishments to advance the causes of the international rare community.
