New Mental Health Video Series Launches February 24

The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD®) is excited to announce a new collaboration with Bionews, a digital health solutions company dedicated to empowering more than 50 rare disease communities with trusted information, news, and connections. NORD is committed to delivering reliable educational resources tailored to the unique needs of the rare disease community, and this partnership will help expand our existing library.

The collaboration kicks off Monday with an inspiring new video series focusing on mental health and well-being: “Keepin’ It Rare: Let’s Talk Therapy with Dr. Al Freedman.” Dr. Freedman is a leading therapist who specializes in working with individuals and families affected by rare diseases.

The five-part series will feature insightful conversations between Dr. Freedman and patients, caregivers, and advocates, highlighting the emotional and mental health challenges those navigating life with a rare disease face. Each day, the series will offer a fresh perspective on such important topics as:

  • Why therapy for the rare disease community is unique
  • The mental health impacts of living with a rare disease
  • The experience of being a parent to a child with a rare condition
  • The power of connection and community in rare disease care

At NORD, we know that living with a rare disease is more than a medical experience. It is an emotional and psychological journey that impacts every aspect of daily life. Through our ongoing Living Rare Study, we are actively gathering insights into how rare diseases affect mental well-being. This research will help us better understand how people living with rare disease and their caregivers navigate the emotional complexities of rare disease life and inform new support programs and services.

The content partnership with Bionews is another step in ensuring the rare disease community has access to community and expert-led conversations that address the realities of living with a rare condition and offer support. NORD and Bionews will continue collaborating to provide patients and families with essential tools and information to navigate the rare disease experience.

Be sure to check out the series each day and share it with your networks!
