The Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association, Inc., (ECAA) is a voluntary, non-profit rare disorder organization whose mission is to promote worldwide understanding and support for esophageal cancer patients and caregivers. There are two major types of esophageal cancer, squamous cell and adenocarcinoma of the esophagus. These two conditions make up between 12,000 and 18,000 cases per year in the United States. ECAA was formed in July 2002 and conducted its first annual meeting that same year. It provides support groups, patient networking, and advocacy for patients and families. ECAA also provides education to professionals.
