About Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association
The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association of America is a national self-help organization dedicated to providing information and support to individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and family members. HCM is a primary noninflammatory disease of the heart muscle characterized by enlargement of the lower left chamber of the heart (left ventricle) and of the fibrous partition dividing the two ventricles (interventricular septum). This results in obstruction of outflow of blood from the ventricle and reduced cardiac output. The organization provides information to the medical community; acts as a referral service for affected individuals and family members, offers networking services, promotes and supports research, and publishes a regular newsletter entitled “HCMA News.”
