About Pet Partners

The Pet Partners formerly known as Delta Society is an international non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to improving human health through service and therapy animals. The Society’s Pet Partners Program was established in 1992 to train volunteers and screen their pets for visiting animal programs in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and schools. The organization currently consists of 5,000 members with 6,500 pet partner teams operating in 50 states. Animal assisted therapy is incorporated as part of the treatment program for depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, head injuries, and speech disorders as well as many other conditions. Training is provided through Delta instructors, a home study course and videotape, and a continuing education newsletter. In addition, the Society offers a website (www.deltasociety.org that provides comprehensive information to people with service dogs who are denied access to places of public accommodation, housing, and employment.
