American SIDS Institute

The American SIDS Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preventing sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and to ensuring that the medical and corporate communities, government agencies, and general public share the sense of urgency in preventing SIDS. Sudden infant death syndrome is characterized by the sudden death of any infant or young child that is unexpected by history and for which no adequate cause of death can be found. The institute was founded to develop a comprehensive national program of research, clinical care, and education and to focus national attention and resources on the problem of SIDS. Established in 1983, the organization provides support groups, promotes research, engages in-patient and professional education, and offers clinical services.
