The ARCH National Respite Network, a non-profit consortium of several organizations, supports service providers and families through training, technical assistance, evaluation, and research. Respite, temporary relief is provided for caregivers and families in which there are children with disabilities, with chronic or terminal illnesses, and/or who are at risk of abuse or neglect. Respite can occur in out-of-home and in-home settings for any length of time, depending upon family needs and available resources. Crisis nurseries are a form of respite that focuses on children who are at risk of abuse or neglect. Respite helps prevent out-of-home placements and possible abuse and neglect situations, preserves the family unit, and supports family stability. The center's staff offers training, technical assistance, and support materials to state and local agencies to help them develop and maintain effective respite programs. The center offers informational resources to the public, a free database and downloads of respite options for families/caregivers, fact sheets, and training manuals.
