About Disabled Sports USA

The Disabled Sports USA (DS/USA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that disabled people have access to sports, recreation, and physical education programs from grassroots to elite sports levels. Established in 1967 by disabled Vietnam veterans, DS/USA serves people with varying disabilities, including amputations, weakness or paralysis of both legs (paraplegia), paralysis of all four limbs (quadriplegia), cerebral palsy, head injury, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, stroke, and visual impairment. DS/USA consists of more than 60,000 members and 80 chapters around the United States. Educational materials include a website (www.dsusa.org), a general information packet, and a sports magazine entitled, “Challenge”. Program activities include sporting activities and events, educational workshops and instructor training.
