The mission of the Foundation For A Cure For Mitochondrial Disease, Inc. is to raise money that will go directly to research seeking to cure mitochondrial diseases. The foundation pledges that 100 percent of the funds raised will go directly to research. Mitochondrial diseases are hereditary disorders that affect the ability of cells within the body to produce energy. The foundation covers several diseases, including MELAS, MERRF, and Leigh's Syndrome, among others. Established in 2000, it supports research and serves patients and their family members, health professionals and the general public.
