About InterConnect Support Group
For more than 30 years, InterConnect Support Group has proudly maintained the largest support network in the United States for intersex individuals, their loved ones, and allied professionals. InterConnect Support Group is a compassionate and affirming community of intersex individuals, family members, dedicated to improving quality of life and resilience for intersex youth and adults through connection and community support.
InterConnect envisions a world where variations of sexual characteristics (VSC) are embraced as a natural variation of human biology, and where all intersex people are afforded autonomy and adequate support to feel safe, seen, and embraced in community. Intersex people, also known as people with Variations of Sexual Characteristics (VSCs), experience increased rates of medical complications, social isolation, mental health challenges, and life opportunities due to historical and systemic shame, secrecy, and ignorance around the spectrum of natural variation in sex characteristics. When an intersex person knows they are seen, accepted, and supported – when they have community – they develop resiliency to face any challenges that may come their way.
Our programs include referrals and consultations for newly diagnosed (or newly connected) individuals and families, virtual peer support groups and social networking opportunities, regional gatherings and an annual national conference, intergenerational mentorship, and the lifting up of community resources and connections. Through this holistic wraparound approach, InterConnect equips our members with a network of community who have walked the road before and let’s them know that they are not alone. That is the power of InterConnect.
