About International Prader Willi Syndrome Organization

The International Prader Willi Syndrome Organization (IPWSO) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise the quality of life for all people with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) and their families. IPWSO fosters the formation of new associations throughout the world. Education is the key to our objective of early diagnosis and early management of the syndrome. One of the most important goals of IPWSO is to provide an international forum for scientists and multidisciplinary professionals. PWS is a genetic disorder characterized by low muscle tone, short stature if not treated with growth hormone, and incomplete sexual development. A chronic feeling of hunger occurs that, coupled with a metabolism that utilizes drastically fewer calories than normal, can lead to excessive eating and life-threatening obesity.
