Description

The Meningitis Research Foundation is a non-profit organization in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland that fights death and disability from meningitis and septicemia, and supports people affected by these diseases. Meningitis is characterized by inflammation of the protective membranes (meninges) surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The condition is usually due to infection with certain bacteria or viruses. Septicemia is systemic disease characterized by the presence of invading microorganisms or their toxins in the bloodstream. Meningitis Research Foundation, which was founded in 1989, funds vital research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicemia, raises awareness of the diseases, and offers support through in-depth information.
