The National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association (NSDA) is a non-profit, 501c3 organization dedicated to advancing medical research into the causes of, and treatments ofspasmodic dysphonia; promoting physician awareness of the disorder through outreach; and sponsoring support activities for people with SD and their families through educational materials, annual symposiums, support groups, and online resources. The NSDA is the only organization that is entirely dedicated to spasmodic dysphonia. This disorder, which is a form of dystonia, is a neurological voice disorder that involves involuntary spasms of the vocal cords, causing interruptions of speech and affecting the voice quality. SD can cause the voice to break up or to have a tight, strained, or strangled quality.
