About Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency International Alliance

We are a nonprofit dedicated to educating the public, patients and families, and healthcare providers on the most up-to-date, scientific, evidence-based treatment guidelines for PK deficiency and the psychosocial impacts of living with this ultra-rare blood disease. PKD is caused by a mutation in the PKLR-gene, resulting in moderate to severe life-long anemia and more importantly, iron-overload throughout the body that contributes to several comorbidities. Correct diagnosis and proper treatment are critical to the life expectancy and quality of life in people living with PK deficiency.
