About Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency International Alliance

Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency International Alliance (PKDIA) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families by raising awareness, expanding education, and promoting advocacy. PK deficiency is caused by a mutation in the PKLR-gene, resulting in moderate to severe life-long anemia and more importantly, iron-overload throughout the body that contributes to several comorbidities. Correct diagnosis and proper treatment are critical to the life expectancy and qualify of life in people living with PK deficiency.
