American Plasma Users Coalition (A-PLUS) Applauds Recent Move by Department of Health and Human Services to Limit Out-of-Pocket Costs
Posted by Jennifer Huron
As part of the American Plasma Users Coalition (A-PLUS), NORD and several of its member organizations submitted letters to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell and three House Chairmen, Reps. Paul Ryan, John Kline and Fred Upton, expressing support for HHS’s recent move to limit out-of-pocket (OOP) cost-sharing by applying the individual OOP limit to any individual, whether that person is enrolled in a self-only or a family plan. Due to the cost of plasma protein therapies, these patients usually will meet any deductible each and every year, and, depending on the progression of their illness, even meet the OOP limits as well. To double the OOP cap simply because a patient is enrolled in a family plan makes little sense because it assumes two incomes where there may be only one.
